How to Glorify God
Posted by Bassem W in Human spirit :) on January 18, 2009
The highest form of worship to God is to obey Him. By honoring Him in our thoughts, words, and actions, we can glorify Him with our lives.
This is the key to everyday Christian life. Regardless of whether we go to school, church, work, or stay home, whatever we do should be in honor of the Lord. Not everything that we do is in and of itself spiritual, per se, but we can bring glory to God in both the largest and smallest actions that we take. Here are some ways that we can practically do everything in the name of Jesus.
Have a song on your heart. Is there a song from church that you just love, or a psalm in the Bible that brings your peace or joy? Think about it throughout the day and praise God in your heart. That way no matter what you do, your mind if focused on Him.
Be prayerful.Communicating with God is easy when you know that he can see and hear everything, even the deepest of our thoughts. Telling Him, whether it be out loud or in our thoughts, about what we are feeling will keep us connected with Him. If you are angry, pray about it, and you will find it easier to deal with. Also, praying for the people that you encounter during your day is also a great way to bring honor to God just by going through the day.
Do your best. If you are working on something, doing chores, studying, or at your job, do it as if you are doing it for God’s glory. In reality, you will be. It can be a testimony that God is motivating you, blessing the work of your hands, and gifting you with the ability to do whatever it is you are doing well.
Avoid complaining and worry. Having a bad attitude about things doesn’t make God look good. Look at the bright side of things, and don’t mumble about how much you don’t like certain things. Worry is wasted energy, just like complaining is. It is a much better testimony to the goodness and ability of God if you pray about your concerns and trust that God will take care of you. Getting stressed, feeling hopeless, and worrying does happen sometimes, but don’t stay there. Pray and get out of the worrying-ditch. Your faith in the Lord with inspire others, and glorify God.
Be kind to others. A smile can go a long way. Be nice to people, be patient with them, and be courteous. These days there are more and more people who are proud, rude, and in a rush. Stand out and be kind. Doing nice things for other people is a way to be a witness to the goodness of Jesus. You can really brighten someone’s day and make them feel special. If that doesn’t bring glory to God, I don’t know what does!
Overall, do the things that you know will please God, and avoid the things you know won’t reflect well on Him. After all, as a Christian, you are representing Him. Honor the Lord in everything that you say and do, and His light and glory will shine through you.
